Dentists Dealing with Career Burnout
A+ A- A Main Content Career burnout is common no matter what your chosen career may be. This includes dentistry as well. If you find that you’re dreading work in the morning or you no longer enjoy seeing and visiting with patients, you may be suffering from dental career burnout. Instead of doing something you may regret, such as leaving or selling a practice, there are a few things you can try to better handle the stress.
Tips on Dealing with Career Burnout
Below are a few ways to help you get over the feeling of career burnout:
- Talk to an unbiased third party – Talk to friends who are able to be objective and unbiased. Avoid talking to people who mean well but will try to “fix” your problems for you. Instead, talk to the friends who are great listeners and will let you unload your issues without judgement!
- Take breaks during the day – It’s a good idea to get away from the office more regularly if you’re experiencing stress at work. Some ways to do this without losing money is to eat lunch outside of work instead of at your desk, take a few 10-15-minute breaks throughout the day to read a book, take a nap, or even do a puzzle.
- Get enough sleep – Getting enough sleep is a very important part of your ability to function and feel happy and productive. Experts agree that 8 hours is the ideal amount of sleep every night.
- Try exercising more – Lastly, not only is exercise a great way to stay fit and healthy, it’s also been proven to release endorphins. Endorphins are known as the “feel-good” hormone! Even if you can only fit in 15-20 minutes of exercise a day, it’s still better than none at all!
